On June 15, the Save Our Youth Academic Program awarded over $60,000 to 19 graduating seniors from three of our local high schools in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. Seniors, accompanied by their families, friends, and significant others, had the opportunity to listen to one of our very brightest students, now alumnus of SOY and Berkeley, speak on behave of our program. Jenny Corona, an Estancia graduate, class of 2008, spoke very eloquently in Spanish and English about her struggles in education and everyday life. She also expressed how the program has helped her get to where she is today. On behalf of SOY and the rest of its staff, I can say that we are very proud of her and all our graduates. We hope to have more alumni in the future willing to guide the young minds of others in their former shoes.
